How to sow it
Red cabbage is a long-season crop: sown in spring, it spends the whole summer building and only hearts up as the nights draw in. That patience is the point — the heads keep in the ground well into December and store for weeks after cutting.
Give it firm, limed ground and net it. Pigeons will strip a young red cabbage faster than any other brassica in the plot.
